Haruno Launched OPERATION Fire Doughnut
Part 1 – when Haruno met Hachiman in the donut cafe, explained how she felt toward her little sister, although she saw Yukino’s change in the school cultural festival.
Part 2 – explained the raging fire of jealous in Haruno’s mind after she heard “unbelievable info” from his former classmate, Orimoto Kaori (折本 かおり).
Part 3 – with what happened in part 2, this explained how she started her operation, and she “needed” Hayama.
Part 4 – explained how she forced convince Hachiman so he will go to Hayama’s date group.
Part 5 – when she met Hachiman again, before the double date, her “misunderstanding” revealed what she always wants.
The truths behind Hayato’s sacrifice for Hachiman.
Part 1 – explained about the hope & despair of Hayama when he got call from haruno to come to the donut cafe, but it appeared he must go have fun with unknown girls. Along with the jealous & inferior complex toward Hachiman.
Part 2 – his plan started when he invited Hachiman to the date. This part revealed how he “lured” Haruno & his love rival to his secret plan.
Part 3 – revealed how he used people to tortu** his love rival during the date. Along with his feelings when we watched Hachiman suffered.

I strongly recommend you to read LN v8. And manga -Monologue- v7 will help you see the scenes about what happened in double date. Manga Monologue is consistent with the story in LN. Anime Zoku, ss2 of Oregairu, is good, but many important scenes & conversations were cut or modified.

Before I will start.
Before you will reach the last part, let me mention part 3 first, I explained about Yukino’s condition that effected her volition to solve Isshiki Iroha (一色いろは) and her own inferiority complex toward her older sister, and how her big sister “misunderstood” that her younger sister hates her and their family. The real reason that this result happened is they never talk about this. Yukino never talked why she is so angry to Hachiman, with him and Yuigahama Yui (由比ヶ浜 結衣), and Haruno never talk about her feelings to her little sister even once. That’s why their “unawareness and misunderstanding” happened that become the bad result.
The bad result that
- made Yukino had another trauma, the shamefulness that she got because the eyes and the silence of the others in that place “agreed” with Haruno’s opinion. (Her feeling was shown when Hachiman talked with her about her election participation because one of memory she reminded is when her sister made her realize the mistake she almost do.)
- Haruno who got another trauma because she hurt her younger sister because of her own overwhelming anger and disappointment toward Yukino. (Her feelings was shown via her back.)
Both of them got traumas.
But now, I will concentrate to the trio, Hachiman, Haruno and Hayama. Their feelings and thoughts, and the final result of secret plans of Haruno and Hayama.

But although I decided to close the curtain of what happened in the double date, to tell you the truth, I recommend you to not believe in my assumptions completely. Because I realized that this last part is the most difficult phase among all Oregairu analysis regard LN v8. So I will “splash” my assumption bullets instead. The hardest thing is Hayama’s thoughts. Thoughts, not feelings. I don’t have any problem to decode his feelings, but since there are too many mysterious in this character, it was really hard to decode his own thoughts when he talked with Hachiman. Although Haruno is very difficult to decode what she is thinking when she talked with Hachiman, Hayama is the hard mode for me.
And I will say that although I can’t understand about his thoughts perfectly, I realized that what he thought didn’t direct to what Hachiman is, like other people and even Hachiman himself interpreted. (?) After I decoded his words and obtained hidden meanings, I finally realized one of his past and understand why he did all of these. My post is TL (more than 10,000 words!?) but if you can read until the end, I can say your effort will be worthwhile.
But right now I will focused on the first character who left from the scene first, Haruno.
The remained emotions of Yukinoshita Haruno
In the part 3, I explained how she was driven by overwhelming anger and disappointment that she witnessed her sister didn’t try to change so she will gain her own “self” again, but she chose the worst route even Haruno never imagine Yukino will choose this path, the way to be Mrs.Yukinoshita, the professional manipulator. After she delivered her own anger to her sister by making her aware her own mistake, what remained with her after her flame of anger died down, is…
the sadness and guilt.
I can’t describe how she felt when she hurt her sister very well, but her back alone would make you know something one or two. But if you want clearer example, it’s not different from when Hachiman hurt his beloved sister when she invaded his mind because she wanted to help his brother (LN v8, anime season2 ep3). That incident made Hikigaya siblings hurt each other until ep5. He felt guilty he hurt his sister. Hikigaya Komachi (比企谷 小町) felt guilty she crossed the line.
But what I want to say is not how they hurt each other, but because they are close siblings. Because Hachiman cares for Komachi, and she cares for her brother, when they realized they hurt one another, their guilty are stronger because they hurt the one they care for. This notice can explain how Haruno felt, when she hurt the one she cares for.
And I don’t know Haruno will hate herself after hurt her sister or not, because there’s no any clue that show her own after effect. But I think when Yukinoshita sisters can has “girl talk”, I am not surprised if both of them will say they are sorry hurting one another. It’s like the memory returned again and made them can reveal their suffering that time (I mean the double date). But this is my personal assumption or should I say, my hope only. From LN v2, Yukino showed she is jealous when she watched other siblings are close. And Haruno showed clearly that she cares for her sister. These signal made me hope their wish will reach another side sooner.
Come to think of it, my hope to see them has girl talk is still very difficult (at least for now), difficult more than when Hachiman reconciled his sister, because Hikigaya siblings are close from the beginning, so when they need to talk, although he must gather courage to talk with his sister, it happened. But in the case of Yukinoshita sisters, in order to make Yukinoshita sisters reconcile, they need miracle, because Yukino can’t do that to her sister because of many reasons. But since the author “laid the foundation” of reaching the one they care for.
- such as when Hachiman can reach Yukino and Yuigahama (a bit) when he gathered every ounces of courage to talk with them).
- or when Hiratsuka-sensei gave him important lesson because she “trusts” in him.
And since Haruno must live in the same place with her sister as their mother commanded, the hope I’m waiting for is around the corner.
But we need to wait until that possible future will come, don’t we?
The raging fire tornado of haruno.
I think Hachiman disliked how Haruno treated her sister like that, so he questioned her. I assume her reaction is normal. She pretended to ignore his question. This is like self-defense, I mean, she didn’t see why she need to answer the honest answer to him, since this is about herself and her sister only. And although she told him why she did that, it’s possible that he wouldn’t believe and complain (judged from his tone). So ignore him is the right thing. I think she too, wants someone understand her, like during the school cultural fes, Hachiman asked what she is planning in spite of realizing well that her existence will effect her sister. Haruno asked him back if he’ll believe her or not.
When Haruno asked Hachiman back that…
“You think so?”
For Haruno, I think this is not the question or she was asking him, but it’s just the words because she was ignoring him, and she didn’t need any answer at all. However, for Hachiman, when I read his answer, I think he misunderstood that she was asking him, so he answered. Too bad for him that his answer is like stepping the land mine.
“Yes. Well, I happen to have a little sister myself, so I can easily tell if there’s ‘something’ going on between fellow siblings.”
I think his answer cause the raging fire in Haruno’s mind. She didn’t want any answer. But if you look via her point of view, I can say that his words hurt her feelings extremely. Why is it like that? Because when you talked with someone who are suffering because of whatever reason, but s/he tried to act normally, so no one even you will notice, but you suddenly say something that pierced her/his trauma, you know what I mean, right?… So when he said something that went straight to her fresh trauma that happened just now, although he had no any malice when he said, but the raging flame in her mind raised. That’s why when she heard that,
she smiled to “her target”.
“You seem to understand everything, don’t you, Hikigaya-kun?”
Although the pics above are not consistent with her raging flame because she didn’t release it desperately. But I can tell she was so angry at him that he said as if he understands about what happened between herself and her sister very well, but he didn’t know anything. Even Hachiman who was not aware his wrong, he can understand her pressure toward him via her remarks that dripped with sarcasm and her expression, that he is just the fool to say like he understands. If he knows what happened, he wouldn’t ask her why she went overboard to her sister.
When Haruno noticed his attitude, I think it’s like a system in her mind that will work automatically. If she saw the others are feeling bad because of her, she will lessen the pressure so the others will relieve or forget what she did just now. Her auto system happened many times,
such as in LN v3, when she met him for the first time. When he noticed “something dark” in her, she noticed he realized that in her, so she increased her own cheerfulness and cuteness (as two pics above ⇑) to him so he will forget what she did earlier.

or in LN v5, when she said the legendary question that made him and Yuigahama were curious what she meant, she acted like she was admiring the firework to not let them be aware her hidden thoughts.
I “decoded” remarks and attitude of Haruno at that time in full version for you already, so if you want to know the her hidden intention that leaded to her decision until she went to the school during the cultural fes, you can read more in Oregairu Analysis – “When” Yukinoshita Haruno Decides to Help Yukino.
So her sudden cheerfulness to him this time is not different. To not make him feel bad. However…
However, this time her auto system didn’t run effectively and shortly. Although she lessened pressure to him, but her raging flame of anger that happened because the fight and his shallowness still remained and made her waver. That’s why although her auto system worked its best to lessen the pressure by wearing cheerful mask and saying the good point of Hachiman that she always admires too, she ended up showing her own “true feeling”, and I agree with him, that her feeling is not the love, but the anger. Her overwhelming anger that even her cheerfulness and logic can’t stop its flame.
ps. When I mentioned the moment Haruno admires the good point of Hachiman, this moment was not shown in anime, but in LN v5.
“Things that shrink back from something malicious really are cute.”
Her remarks this time is the result that she looked down upon her target, the one who pierced her trauma.
My old assumption – Haruno showed her love to hachiman.
Actually, since the influence of anime Yahari Zoku is so powerful. I mean, after I watched this ep4, I judged Haruno’s attitude without any hesitation and interpreted that she showed her interest toward Hachiman. I mean, when I watched her praising and raising her hand to him like that. These clear actions made me think she showed her love to him. Or should I say, I myself want to understand that she did that. But in LN, didn’t make me can confirm that my old assumption is correctly or not. Because it can be anything.
My doubt – Haruno’s face is melting.
So it’s my lucky to read manga -Monologue- v7. This manga made me doubt my own understanding. The page when I can see Haruno’s expression when her cheerful mask was melting like cheese… I mean, I ever mentioned earlier about her auto system. Although she was smiling, her eyes told “another”. At first, I have no clue why she made face like that in spite of she was saying how he is interesting. But this reference made me doubt my own thought, my thought that she showed her love to him. In case you want to see her expression, you know what I want to recommend, don’t you?
My new assumption – haruno is angry & looks down upon hachiman.
Actually, I should write about this section before analyzed how she felt, but never mind.
Anime made me got assumption I like, manga made me doubt. So if I need the truth, I must search in LN. And in order to achieve it, I need to review the conversation between her and Hachiman again. And this time, I must realize the development of this character that happened before this conversation. I will tell you that my old assumption was created “before” I will be aware “her true wish toward her sister”. So I built my old assumption so easily and placed my own expectation to it. So for my own opinion, it’s not credible.
But after I wrote many Oregairu analysis that are related to Haruno, especially…

These analysis the results after I can be aware the development of this character a little bit, and they will help me can find how she was feeling and thinking when she was talking with him after the cold war between her and her sister. After I reviewed her remarks carefully, I decided to make my new assumption. The new assumption that I analyzed already above.
And now she said something to another guy.
And then, Haruno “rejected” hayama “again”.
After she done talking with Hachiman, she said just one line to another guy beside him. At first, I didn’t think much about her remark toward him, although it made him sad a little. But when I read LN v8, his reaction toward her remark is just a sigh that sounded like he was coughing. However, when I watched his expression in anime, although the reference in anime is not what I should take it as reliable reference, but thanks for it, I doubt why Hayama made a face like he wanted to sink to the soil.
However, his expression was the starting point for me to find out the truth or not, I already forgot. But after I realized his true intention to make Hachiman suffer during the double date, that made me realize “his pink but black wish” why he made all these during the date, and “his secret love plan” during the cultural fes. as the next result, I finally understand the moment when Haruno said to him, and the hidden meaning in her words. I can say when I realized that hidden meaning, it impacted me so much, and surprised how the author can hide this truth excellently.
As the topic above, I wrote Haruno rejected him again, because it ever happened once (at least in Oregairu’s story). If you want to read the first time she rejected him, I recommend you to read v8 (during the donut cafe) when she “comforted”him after she made him must go hang out with Orimoto and Nakamachi. And this moment was not shown in anime and manga -Monologue- v7. After you finish reading these analysis, his multidimensional plan (all parts) and the conclusion of Haruno’s operation and his plan (all parts), you would see how the alternative story ran, the story that focused on Haruno and Hayama. He planned all of these to make her interest in him instead of Hachiman. But I will say that she ended up rejecting him again. Do you know why she rejected him? It’s easy. It’s because he
didn’t consider her feeling.
Why did Haruno reject Hayama?
The first reason
I will say that Haruno realized why he did all of these already. If you want to know when she realized his plan, I will point at the moment when she saw his supreme epic show. When he acted like he is the hero who protected the victim from villains.
In LN only, after Hayama confronted Orimoto and Nakamachi, everyone were stunning in his action, but there’s only one who made a voice as if she was sneering. This is the moment when I realize why she made a voice like that. She really “sneered” Hayama’s action, include with his hidden objective. I think she got the answer by including the true nature of him to her consideration and finally got the conclusion of his reason why he wants Hachiman, how he can drag herself to this date, and why he gathered everyone to this double date.
Another evidence Haruno really sneered, is in manga -Monologue-.
If you want to know why Haruno sneered at his action, you should look via her own point of view, how are you feeling when you watched someone is protecting the others although his true nature say another.
Although just this conclusion will make her reject him because he never is honest, because everything he did in this show is just a fake show that was written to trick her especially, to make her believe that even he can do something like his love rival (sacrifice himself for others or for better result). Just like when she was amused in Hachiman’s action during the cultural festival.
When she realized his true intention and the truth that he tried to trick her, that he was trying to hide it from her, do you think how she will feel after caught it? If you are Haruno, how do you feel? Do you realize “his feeling” toward you? What do you want to answer after got this conclusion? But just this conclusion is not the reason she rejected him (although just this is enough for her to reject him), there’s second reason why she rejected his feeling.
The second reason
Remember when her sister came to the cafe or not? When she watched the scene when Yukino was going to forcing Hayama to participate the election, I am sure this is the moment Haruno realized why he appointed her sister to the cafe. Because if she knows the true nature of him very well, and when she saw his epic fake show and now his attitude toward her sister and Yuigahama after Orimoto and Nakamachi left, Haruno would realize instantly that he made her solve his problem for him.
When I assumed that he made Haruno solve his problem, of course, she didn’t need to jump to appear in front of her sister, but I ever wrote in Part 2 that he knew very well that she will stop her sister for sure, because he made Haruno see how her sister was going to be like her mother, the one who made her suffer until now. So the possibility Haruno will not jump to the scene is zero. And I am sure that she realized that he was using her to solve his problem. My evidence is her own words.
Hayama: “I just wanted to do whatever I could.”
Haruno : “Hmmm, I see, I see.”
Her words is so easily to overlook, because it’s just a normal response. But if you can understand how he intent to use her to stop his problem, her response is like she finally realized what he wanted her to do (stop Yukino for him). So I will ask you again, if you are Haruno, how are you feeling when you know that someone will use you do dirty work while that someone was so scared to do it by himself?
The last reason
How are you feeling if you realized that someone used you to solve her/his problem but you ended up hurt your beloved sister?
With these three reasons I found (and I am not sure I found all of them or not), it’s enough for Haruno to reject Hayama. I think after she realized everything he did and she got heavy mental damage, when she turned to him, what she said to him covered her own feeling toward him and the truth that she caught the reasons why he dragged Hachiman to the double date.
“People who can just handle everything flawlessly just aren’t fun, right?”
If my assumption about Haruno realized everything, along with the mental damage she was carrying right now, she didn’t tell how he did all of these, I think she meant he can trick her to his own plan and she never realize until it’s too late to left. He lured her to this show by using Hachiman, that made her so curious until she observed his action. Along with how he can manipulate everyone for his own purpose perfectly. If the outsider watched his show, s/he would admire him for sure. This is the true meaning of her, when she said Hayama can handle everything flawlessly.
But although he can do everything perfectly, the truths that…
- he already tricked her (lured her to observe him).
- tried to trick her (via his supreme epic but extremely fake show and made her hands dirty to solve his problem)
- and she ended up got heavy mental damage from hurting her sister.
will not change. So when she said about him who did something like that is not fun, she didn’t mean people like she said, but Hayama. I think she said people because she didn’t want to specify, but she knew well that the boy she meant would know she means himself. So “people”. And although I assumed that she rejected him, she didn’t mean it directly. But since she knows well Hayama will get her answer that was attached in her remark. So although she didn’t say it clearly, but let him think about it himself. The words that has her own feeling toward him inside.
Because she is not interested in him at all.
the end of operation fire doughnut of haruno
For you who already read my analysis about operation fire doughnut of Haruno (part 1-5), you would know that I wrote about why she dragged Hayama to hang out with Orimoto and Nakamachi to make him suffer because although she is the one he loves, she rejected him voiceless via hanging out with almost strangers instead, and one of those is the girl Hachiman ever confessed love to. If you want to know her objective why she did all these, I wrote them in part 3 already. So I will not repeat it anymore. Things I want to write is how it ended.
- Actually, her secret plan started to be destroyed the moment she decided to corner Hachiman to this double date already, because she fell in Hayama’s trap/manipulation already because he was aiming to destroy the situation she forced him during the donut cafe.
- Her plan to make him suffer endlessly didn’t work (in case she expected hellish ending). Because when he got Hachiman to the date, the rumor might not happen, because Hayama didn’t go the date alone, he got another boy too. So if someone who knows Hayama (the popular guy) saw him with two girls, they might not cause the gossip because Hachiman was there too. So if Haruno aimed Hayama will suffer because of the rumor, it will not happen because he was with Hachiman (judge from reaction of Miura Yumiko (三浦 優美子), Ebina Hina (海老名 姫菜), Isshiki Iroha (一色いろは) and Tobe Kakeru (戸部 翔)), the guardian.
- Is Haruno aiming for the hellish ending or not is still questionable, but I think she wants him to be distant from her by pushing him to those girls she dislikes (and Orimoto is the one who seized Hachiman’s interest). Because she hates him but he wants her love him.
- And her operation was destroyed by herself and Hayama when he started to confront those girls. Because Haruno’s plan is making him stay away from her, but when she dragged Hachiman to the double date, Hachiman made Hayama’s plan to destroy her operation was successful. Because if Hachiman was not there, Hayama must go hang out with those girls alone. But when he confronted those girls to protect “Hachiman he prepared”, Hayama didn’t need to hang out with those girls anymore and fo-re-ver, got it? I will say that Haruno is the one who destroyed her own plan but Hayama is the one who planned her do it.
Another thing that is very important is her own remarks when she was leaving from the cafe.
“Someone rained on my parade, anyway.”
The Meaning of “Someone rained on Her parade.” (New!)
Previously, I didn’t understand its meaning. But now, I am sure that “someone” she meant is Hayama and her parade is her wish to recover the relationship with her sister again. Because I was the one who wrote about her plan to help Yukino and realized why she did that. But I never think everything has connection at the beginning. The parade she mentions, is her wish to be close with her sister again. Maybe I am a fool.
So when I review via her own plan to help Yukino during the school cultural festival, it means that Haruno right now realizes that she destroyed that tiny wish with her own hands…since she was the one who fell in Hayama’s trap by her own will (she was curious why Hayama wants Hachiman to join this double date so she came to observe, but she realized later that Hayama lured her to stop his problem, and ended up hurting her sister because she couldn’t stand to see her sister be like her mother, the one who always forced her to do things).
And I used a word “tiny wish” because when she talks with Hachiman in the donut cafe and gains some info about school and Yukino, she realizes that her sister would not participate in any events that will help her gain self-confidence/improvement. That’s why she is so disappointed. However, although Haruno will feel like that and the possibility that their relationship will be recovered again, is very low (since Haruno thinks that Yukino will not change herself), Haruno didn’t do anything to shatter this possibility yet, until she pressures her sister to do things by her own hands (participates the student council president).
This moment is important thing that no one can notice so easily. Because after she did something that is like “obloquy” to her sister, she “feels by herself” that both of them would not be close again, because she hurts her sister. Got it?
When she realizes that and is regretting it, Hachiman who also didn’t know her feeling at that time since he was confused why she said like that to his club member, said something that pierced her heart… That’s the cause of her anger toward him who dare step on l@ndmine. Although she has ability to understand others but right now her emotions, her regret and anger are everything.
Actually, her expression and pressure in manga Monologue and @Comic are more consistent with LN. In manga Monologue, maybe I’m wrong, but when I look at her expression when she talks with Hachiman, I think she is going to cry…
Anyway, if I don’t understand her at that moment, I think she is very scary like most people think. But now, I think she is like a normal human, not different from others.
I think she would feel anything negative toward Hayama (who destroys her wish) when she realizes her parade was destroyed and it’s not surprising if she will not forgive him (like when she pressured Hachiman). But I think she would blame herself because she can’t forgive herself that let Hayama manipulate her so easily by making her interest his unusual behavior (he bowed to Hachiman to invite him to the double date). If she reviewed what happened, she would know her own foolishness to make herself dance in his palm despite she understands his true nature very well.
So her own guilty that making her own wish was destroyed, deducted with her own unsatisfied and hatred toward Hayama, becomes the tiredness. She is too tired to hang out there so she just says one line only. When she says she is tired, I think she means it. If you know everything that happened is ridiculous and it happened because of just the selfish desire, and you danced all times and got mental damage as the big bonus, why will you not feel so tired?
And then Operation Fire Doughnut of Haruno, ended.
In the end, Hayama was rejected by haruno.
When Hayama done with his supreme epic show, he was just waiting for Haruno’s answer enthusiastically, and at the same time, he seeks help from Haruno because her little sister was going to force him to participate the election. After she done her job, now it’s time to the finale!!…

When Hayama got her answer, he realized instantly that his effort can’t change her mind… I don’t know how he interprets her answer, but it must not be like he expected for sure. Despite he tried so much, but what she tells him is like that, boring guy, and leaves the scene. It’s not like as he imagines (she will be interested in him after all of these end). That is not different from nonchalance. I am not sure if he knows or not that she rejects him just now.
If you want to know how the story of the brave Hayama is, I will explain.
Now we have the three characters, himself (the brave knight), Haruno (the princess/his crush) and Hachiman (the victim he protected just now). After he can save the victim (who he prepared) from villains (he prepared), imagine how the princess (who interests in the victim all times) will admire the brave actions. She would even stop hating him for whatever he did in the past. And when the princess can be close with him again, the remained character (the victim) is not his concern anymore. Imagine more when the brave knight is ready to welcome her and he & the beautiful princess walked out from the scene together, while the victim is standing alone as if…
(assume this guy is Hayama.)
From his own multidimensional plan and his objectives, I am sure that the best ending he was aiming for is not different from the best ending we can see often in romance much. And since he didn’t need to use victim anymore, he will let him be. And if you look via his point of view as the one who hates Hachiman, it would be fabulous if he can win Haruno and toss Hachiman away. The moment when he and Haruno leave while the one he hates will be left alone. It’s like the perfect victory announcement that reflexes the true nature of him very well.
But yes, the best ending I mentioned is just imagination since it never happen. The ending right now is the cruel reality. The one he wants the most, is not interest in him, not in the least. She just told him how perfect he did but she saw him as “boring”. And she just left from the scene…like that. When he reviewed her remark, it’s clear that she still thinks about him the same.
And he falls into the despair.
The princess just left, let the prince rot while the victim watches him. And he must face the raging flame of another person.
Hachiman misinterpreted hayama’s remarks.
I will say for now that Hachiman misinterpreted Hayama’s words. But I will say that he misunderstood because he never realize Hayama’s objective that it is more selfish. So when Hachiman listened to him, his words made Hachiman interpreted as he can understand. I will try my best to let you see the difference.
If you look via the point of view of Hayama, I think he was busy with absorbing this truth (the truth that he was rejected). But his love rival started to scold him because he interfered his own problem (confronted those girls and he made his club mates see it). From Hachiman’s monologue, he didn’t want both of them see he is in the awkward situation (from Hayama’s words back then, both of them would know that those girls looked down or bullied Hachiman). Imagine when the others were bullying you and your friend see it. It’s not surprising if he was irritated that Hayama pillory his suffering, his weakness. That’s why he was so mad at the guy beside him.
When Hayama realized Hachiman’s anger, he…
Hayama made a self-deprecated laugh and relaxed his shoulders. When he did that, the Hayama whom I thought was overbearing looked tiny.
“Sorry. That wasn’t my intention… I just did something I wanted to do.”
In the hidden truth level, I would say that he did because of his own personal desires (make Haruno interest in him and make Hachiman played the victim role so he will be the brave knight). But after many years, I found something new or two deeper levels that I named them as “the deepest layer” and “the core”. These two levels are what I found out while I was analyzing this post. In case you want to know only the hidden truth about characters but if you want to see more deeper levels that is not about the story but the unbelivable things, feel free to read the post to see how my how-to grasps something.
For example, if I read Hachiman’s thought and Hayama’s words in these three images above as another level that is not about the story, I must do like these. ⇓

This is how I read deeper so I can find out “the core” that is hidden in these characters’ conversation. I think it’s difficult to read like this so LN v8 can help because there are full of texts. If you find the same thing as me, you will notice the words from Hayama are true, thought by Hachiman is collect too. You might be confused why I said Hachiman’s thought is collect if it must be like that. I will tell you again that in order to see the core, you must ignore all characters for now. After you found out the core, you might stop ignoring every factors I wrote above.
His feeling toward his own action.
But since Hachiman will never know his real objectives (and as if he will tell him), he will think Hayama’s action is unnecessary and he should mind his own business (yes, it’s his own business but his business need you and everyone). When Hachiman didn’t understand why Hayama must destroy his image just to protect him, that is not profitable to him at all (no, it’s very profitable to him to the point that he can lose his own image in the close area like the cafe). So Hachiman questioned him to urge him say why he did that.
Hachiman: “…Are you really okay with what you did to them earlier?”
Hayama: “…I feel terrible for doing it. I don’t want to do it ever again.”
Hachiman’s pov: He is so angry in what Hayama did and didn’t understand why the nice guy like him must but in business of the other.
Hayama’s pov: When he did something that he will never do it (confront people), it’s not weird if he will feel so terrible when he must stand before the others while he was so terrified.
But that is the hidden truth of characters. I will tell you that Hachiman’s question and Hayama’s answer have something interesting that is “the deepest truth” and “the core”.

Finding out the deepest truth and the core via their thought/words might be difficult if you begin to do this. Now their feelings are the big obstacle because if you don’t ignore them, you will remember Hachiman’s anger and Hayama’s emotions that are not necessary to search for the two deeper levels. The deepest level is action, the core is the feeling if you want more hints.
When Hayama crossed his fingers, he was going to his own thought that is like confessing his sin.
His hope.
“…I’ve always been thinking. About a way to take back the things that I destroyed.”

“I… had expectations of you. Even though I understood, I asked you for help anyway. Because of that…”
Earlier, in the level of the hidden truth, I ever analyzed some assumptions that I thought that Hayama is talking about him and Hachiman (1) and the second assumption is this is Haruno’s words in the past that Hayama remembers until this day. But after I found out about how to find the deepest level and the core in the story, I realized that I don’t need to find the past anymore so I ignore my second assumption. And the first assumption is not correct but I can use my first assumption to improve to another level that is finding out the deepest level and the core behind HayaHachi’s thought/words.

- Don’t ignore Hayama’s emotion but ignore Hayama.
- I ignored even the present story for now.
- Read the info by Hachiman and Hayama as the plain text.
The deepest level and the core this time are related to the previous deepest level and previous the core above. This time I didn’t tell you to ignore Hayama’s sadness because I suspect that this is the truth. You might be confused why I told you to ignore Hayama but not ignore his emotion. Well, the core is not about the story. If you find out the deepest level and the core as the same things as I found, you will understand that the deepest level is the action, the core is the feeling. And you will understand the confession above. Why Hachiman is expected?, the meaning of “asked him for help”, understood “what” (understand in this case is …the certain truth that is the reason that Hachiman is expected). Everything will be connected and make sense.
The worth of Hachiman and people around him?
“You need to understand your own worth more… And it’s not just you, but the people around you, too.”
To sum it up, the deepest level and the core behind characters’ thoughts/words are related. I just tell you how to decode them only. So even this point is not the exception. Earlier, I ever intepreted that this quote is Haruno’s words. But after I found out the deepest level and the core, I don’t need to test things with Haruno anymore because I think it might be wrong. So I will make up by telling you how to decrypt this quote to find the core. This time is “the core” only.

I tell you more that if you want to find out the core behind Hayama’s words, this is the worth of Hachiman and people around him. My answer might confuse you because it must be like that, Hayama said this by himself or something. But this is the case that happens to you right now, it means you don’t ignore characters for this consideration yet. Ignore things as my how-to for now and you will see the core. If your answer is the same as me, you will understand the true meaning of the quote above. Ah, ignore the previous event that is the double date too if you want to find out the core.
After I found out the core, I looked at these characters again and I …didn’t know how to react this new truth. Although I understand completely by analyzing the post that I pasted its link so the damage is weaken for me, I don’t know how to write the feedback and even my feeling after found the core.
This only thing is difficult?
“But it’s just so difficult, so… I mean, there should’ve been a better way to do it… This was really the only thing I could do.”
Earlier, I ever interpreted the truth behind Hayama’s opinion or this quote that he is talking about his past between him and Haruno that makes him to launch the hero play during the double date. Until this day, I still believe that he did that to seize her heart so he gathers people like that but I suspect that my theory (some of his words might be Haruno’s) might be wrong or I think their past is not what I am interested anymore. Because the core and the deepest level behind Hayama’s words are more interesting.
If you still remember my how-to to decode character’s thought/word, you can try to decrypt this quote. I can’t say the direct answer but I can tell you that the worth of Hachiman and people around him is related to this core. What is so difficult? What is the only thing “I” could do? I tell you more that this is not Hayama’s hero play anymore. After I found out the core, I looked back at Hayama. This is my personal opinion but I feel that the feeling is consistent. ⇓

This time is the real deal. My topic this time might confuse you but if you found out the core and the deepest level, you will understand why I wrote the topic like that. To find the core and the deepest level starts when Hayama tells Hachiman to stop blah blah blah until Hachiman counters back.

I ever thought that Hayama is tired because he did the same thing to Hachiman (sacrifice himself to change things) so he wants Hachiman to stop because if it continues like that, he can’t seize someone’s heart. I still think that this truth still has some correctness because what happened in the doughnut cafe is the reason he moves. But what I want to say is Hayama suggests Hachiman to stop that, is the illusion. The illusion is the factor that is included so things in the story will be smooth or to make readers/watchers talk about this vague thing.
But after I found out how to find the core and the deepest truth, it appears that Hayama is not talking about how Hachiman endures to be the victim despite Orimoto and Nakamachi did terrible things to him many times anymore because the core and the deepest level are not about the story. It’s how people use postal service by sending the mail to thier own address.
If the misunderstanding happens but people have no the intention to cause that, it is forgivable. And this can be intepreted as the opposite too.
The true meaning of helping people.
If you believe in my theory this time, you will understand the true meaning of Hayama’s last question. Use my how-to again to find the core and the deepest layer.
“Don’t you help people… because you want someone to help you?”isn’t it because you’re wishing for someone to help you?”

This is not about Hayama helps Hachiman or Hachiman helps people via the club activities or the story because the core (that is the hope) and the deepest layer (that is the action) are another level. After I understand the true meaning of Hayama’s question, I can’t agree that this is helping people. “Helping” is just the metaphor or the caramel that covers something different.
So this is the conclusion of his multidimensional plan, the deepest layer, and the core.
My feeling after know all of these…
After I realized the deepest layer and the core, I looked at Hayama again and realized more that the emotion and the atmosphere are consistent with the core.
Even until the very end, Hayama Hayato still can’t understand.
Therefore, Hachiman’s feeling (exclude his anger because I don’t think this emotion toward Hayama is not related to the core) and the atmosphere after he left the cafe and was thinking something about him and that person, are consistent with the core.
Even the hair styles of these two are similar for some reason and their hair colors are managed differently significantly.
The Hidden Meaning of This Visualization: Bicycles Fail.
I ever doubt a scene when Hachiman is gazing his bicycle and others fail and it’s difficult to pull his bike while he is really upset because of Hayama’s abuse. When I was staring this pic, although I didn’t know its meaning but I could feel a negative emotion, “the desolation“. Until I interpreted other metaphors in the story and decoded what happened in this hellish double deat- umm date, I can finally interpret this scene.
I am not sure if each bicycles that has different colors will be related to Hachiman, Yukino, and Yuigahama/Haruno or not.
Another retake
The event at this cafe in anime Zoku ep4 is a retake among retakes that reflect to “the certain event” in the future. Actually, every retakes reflect to that certain event in the future. Even the scene in the image below can be included as another retakes too. ⇓

So I will end the last part. Next, I will write about …LN v10. I think I will choose when Haruno and Hayama meet Hachiman and Yuigahama at the shopping mall. In this Yahari Zoku anime ep10, I wondered for a long time why Haruno calls her sister out although she would know well that Yukino would not want to join the family dinner. Does she just want to mess with Yukino? The answer of this issue is she has no intention like that but it connects with a certain event for these characters include “her” too. I will focus on this in my next analysis.

OK, my comment will be like this a) criticism b) praise c) questions
a) I criticize your way of writing all Oregairu publications. I really feel like you’re trying to compete with Zaimokuza at writing . First you become too mysterious in all the posts with words, for example, “that incident”, “this person”, “her”, etc. The series is already mysterious to begin with, and I am sure that anyone who comes here to read your analysis is because they want an answer, no more questions. What I mean is that there is no fear of spoiling the series or your other post, people looking for analysis have already seen the series.
Second, you are too redundant. I have been reading the posts for a week, and almost in all of them you explain to me what you already explained in the previous paragraph. Worse still, for example what is explained in “part X” is explained again in “part Y” making the publication unnecessarily long.
Third, well … get to the point. I don’t think you need 5 parts to prove your point of view to be honest. Sometimes you wander through your own thoughts.
Also (this one I don’t know if it’s a criticism or not) I know you want people to read your other post, but hey … sometimes you put the link to a related post but you also leave things blue there … and that post goes to another and to another lol. Anyway I am criticizing as a reader, I do not write blog, but I think this made reading difficult so I pointed out.
b) Now! praise! Even with an unnecessarily long read, I admire the lateral thinking you have. Or the effort of going to read and listen to all the formats of the series and analyze it. You have presented evidence, you even say in each post that this could not be what the author intended but your own assumptions. And you are open to everyone’s opinion. The deduction, everything is excellent done. There is honestly little to complain about the insights you have shown. Oregairu’s conversations have many layers, and you went deep to understand the meaning of each layer. What’s scary is that we may have more to find. Or we could be looking for something that does not exist and we will give it meaning and proof, that too is scary. Anyway, I think you did an excellent job getting these deductions, alone or not. This really adds another meaning to the series. We can see in the POV of each character and even apply their ways of thinking to the character of the others. The most common way will be to use Hachiman’s way of thinking on others. Also with this analysis we come to see similarities between characters. For example, Haruno, Hachiman, and Hayama have many similarities. We can see the characters as “alive”, as humans! all based on the mistake of forcing expectations on someone and waiting for them to comply. Truly an amazing analysis, my comment is getting as long as your posts, because I have read a lot of oregairu’s, so I mean it when I praise them.
c) questions. I have a lot, but I forgot almost everything … right now what I want to know is the core and the deepest truth you speak of. Yes, you posted how to get there, but you must understand that not all people have the same ability to come up with ideas. And this doesn’t mean in any way that those who didn’t make it are stupid or something. Well maybe I am? If anyone feels like this, I will say that in the series Yui is portrayed as an idiot, and yet you see how she surprised even Hachiman on the date. Anyway, I don’t even know if my conclusions are the same, that’s why I ask.
I don’t know if this is related, but I notice a few things (most of them you already know): everyone is driven by selfish desire (all characters). Whether those wishes are good or bad is up to everyone to decide.
At the donut cafe before Orimoto arrives, besides the reason you provided, maybe Haruno was relaxed that there was no progress on the trip because if Hachiman goes with another girl, he will pay less attention to Yukino. That would be bad for Haruno’s plans for his sister.
The lines “…Are you really okay with what you did to them earlier?”“…I feel terrible for doing it. I don’t want to do it ever again.”, when I read it as one I feel that it is like a monologue that you can apply to the main characters. Only in different situations. Hachiman for example, can apply it to the situation he’s been in with Yukino and Yui after betraying his expectations. Hayama for whatever happened in the past. Haruno with her sister too, Yukino with her problem. Maybe we can go to the future and apply it to Yui.
Even this lines “…I’ve always been thinking. About a way to take back the things that I destroyed.”
“I… had expectations of you. Even though I understood, I asked you for help anyway. Because of that…”
See? you can apply them to the same characters I named before, in different situations. Well, it might not be the helping part in all cases, but hey! And maybe there are more lines from other characters that you can apply to all of them.

im really lost here… Can you please say what is the hope and the action and all that ? I cant reach to that concept even ignoring all… except, if what you are refering is how Hayama wanted atention of Haruno like you explained on 2nd memorandum (i think).
If it is like that, i cant reach to that idea with the method you provided. But i dont disagree. In fact i support the idea, its gift sense to the action of the characters.
You know this series reminds me of somethings that Neon Genesis Evangelion has portrait. And Im damn sure WW knows the series, so i think is no coincidence.
Also this is a little off topic but by the logic of Hachiman i know there is a genuine thing out in real life and almost everyone have experience it: True love. And i dont mean romantic one, and i do have proof. My proof is the childrens when they run to their parents (or any familiar) after they return from work. They dont want anything back, they dont have ulterior motive, just want to hug. True love. Then you group up and want toys, and want money and become a calculating bastard lol i commented this on youtube like a month or so. That time i didnt understand lots of thing about Hayama and Haruno. I wil stop here, anymore and Zaimokuza will have too many competitors.

a) I admit that most (or all) of my posts are very difficult to read and I really wander through my own thoughts. While I was writing the post, I feel like I was struggling in the …storm. Actually, I focused at “trying to understand the story during writing too” more than “writing to make others understand like me”. This action gave me the result as you said. It is not the good result but this is the only way for me to understand the characters I am interested and things I gained are not in vain. There are mistakes and some mistakes guided me to some consistent opinions.
Actually, there are good people (include you too) who gave me some useful and honest comments. While I was reading your opinion, I feel like “Wow, he’s right!”. I am sorry if my posts are still difficult to read but I decide to leave it like that because for me and would be me alone, my struggling that are full of flaws and mistakes, are my precious treasures.
About the related posts, I would think about character’s feeling during writing the short explanation below the link more than explaining something clearer such as describing the story so things are as you said. But I think your point is worth to consider.
b) So that’s how you feel. I think that it is not scary but sometimes I also reviewed my own action. It’s too much, too deep or not? The reason I don’t think it’s scary because right now I hardly analyzed this project anymore (except for answering some reader’s comments) so what I want to say is “all things must come to an end.” What scary for me is some puzzles can guide people to the suffering. I am not sure but I feel that you witnessed my action so you are worried if I am going too far. I am correct or not, I want to say thank you. Thank you for sharing your honest feeling. I believe that sharing some thoughts that was filtered very well and it was presented clearly just like what you did in this comment, will improve the reader’s wisdom. To sum it up, I think your opinion is really valuable.
c) For your question about the core and the deepest truth, I never think badly to you and others like that and I will never do it. No one is stupid. Actually, while I was reviewing the best way to make others understand their meanings, I considered pros and cons of each methods too. How to explain things while be considering people’s feeling too, is my final conclusion. Explaining things clearly is what I want to do because it is not too difficult to show the core and the deepest truth. However, the reason I still explain things so difficult like that is my own way to trust the good thing inside everyone’s heart.
Since I chose that way to explain things, I also noticed a big wall. Other people will find my explanation is too difficult as the result. The reason it’s like that would be because …each Oregairu fan has their own way to analyze this story. Since each one has her/his own journey, reviewing by using my method to understand something deeper, not the story and characters, will never be easy. It’s not like because I am so smart or something but our exploration inside Oregairu would be the same and different at some points.
So I tried to look for the other ways but the result is 0… What I can do is describing my own experience and tried to write how to solve them as short as possible.
And I read your own analysis, I can say that there are possibilities and consistences. Opening the mind can open the new view so please don’t need to be worried if you can’t find something yet. The more keys to reach the answer is to get peace of mind, to be happy even if we already found out the answer or can’t find the answer yet. Allow the good things reach the mind fully. Doing this makes me get more energy and I can use it to review things again.
Lastly, welcome to the gang of too-long analyst. lol I hope you will find the freedom fully. Analyzing and any works are like our tools, take it whenever we want.

Its been a long time since i read almost all the analysis of Oregairu, so my memory isnt fresh. I have seen the anime first and second season like 5 times by now, the 3rd like 2 times. I dont remember if I grasp the core or anything. But I have been suspecting things… You see, as always when i see Oregairu, i begin to feel uneasy with some phrases… I have been getting wilds thought here and there. Dont have proof but anyway.
I read the mastermind behind the prom cancelation. I agree he is the one behind all, what confirms it to me is that he doesnt accept to help Hachiman with the prom, but i have to add something:
– I think there is more to that plan, Hayama is still trying to make Yukino be independent, to fix her so it can make Haruno happy. And I think he is giving the chance to Haruno herself to help her sister. She will act if she is presented with the right conditions, exactly as when she did when Hayama put his plan with Orimoto and company. You see, this idea comes because Hachiman did it with Yukino, because he knows Yukino dont like to lose, I think Hayama too have a grasp of how Haruno will act given the situation. There is a lot of paralellism between characters in the series, so this make me suspect this. The difference is, Hayama doesnt really need to move that much. I think he is the most
calculating character in the series. But, i dont think he is able to grasp what Hachiman actions will be, there is a time i think he is desperate because Hachiman isnt moving as he wants to. He told Hachiman “you are wrong, this is not the way you should be doing things” or something like that. Later we know HARUNO is not satisfied with what happen righ? she goes and talks with Hachiman.
– This is other wild though… what if… Iroha knows about the engagement ? She is really trying to do the Prom. Maybe she really wants to be the prom queen with Hayama as the prom King, maybe Hayama told her the time she was rejected in the theme park. You know, it really feels strange she is doing what she is doing for the sake of the sensei, or her sempais (the ones graduating). It feels strange she said she didnt want to get regrets… I know we have been lead to thing she is into Hachiman, and I do believe it is true, but maybe it isnt to a full extend, maybe is partially. Anyway i see it, it is strange it has to be that year no matter what, is not like Hayama will graduate that year or anything… except… maybe he will marry that year? mmm…
I actually believe is because of Iroha plan to do the prom, that he makes a counter-plan, and even use this chance to make this whole mastermind plan.
Iroha knowing about the engagement is a MAYBE, i dont have proof, i even doubt it to be honest. But it is a good explanation that match with everything she is doing… Yet is not the only one. She is doing it for the sake of Hachiman club, she doesnt have many friends to begin right ? I can be satisfied with what she told Hachiman on the park too as the reason.
Then… why a prom? a party would do too right ? She want to do something big uh? I cant shake the idea that the prom has queen and king. And that the king will be obviously Hayama. And that she is desperate to do it that year. I know the club was mean to end that year too, but is that enough reason ? I believe Iroha hasnt give up on Hayama yet. And she has Hachiman as a back up plan lol, and if that doesnt work too, at least she wants to keep being friends with all the other members.
Somehow i have a fear of being wrong, so my deductions arent working as they should, this seems more like a conspiracy theory.
If i think of another reason I believe Iroha wants the prom is because next year, Hayama will be full with studies, so this year is her last chance. This reason doesnt need Iroha to know the engagement and is actually more posible to be the one. Because, if we assume that for Iroha, Hachiman is her second choice, it makes sense how she jokes about him repeating a year. I mean , yeah is comedy, but from time to time truth comes out of jokes. So maybe she was thinking, if my plan of getting Hayama fails, maybe i will be satisfied with my plan B (A.k.a. Hachiman lol )
… Anyway there is a lot more mysteries on season 3, but the season focused a lot more on the conclusion of the trio. Also i hear a rumor about WW doing a sequel, some people think is about Hayama and his point of view. It could be interesting if it is like that. I dont expect it will be by Hachiman point of view, because the character did evolve a lot. That said, there is still the posibility, he himself said he wasnt sure if that was genuine or not.

I think your assumptions are possible and they are interesting to read. It is good for us to share our thoughts freely (although I am restrict with the negative opinions lately). Reading other comments might produce another amazing idea.
Therefore, I notice later that even the keywords in Oregairu might be interpreted as the direct or indirect meaning. For example, “get drunk” that I think it has some indirect meaning. So I looked back at other keywords “arranged marriage” that I think it’s possible that it might has some indirect meaning (or metaphor) or it has the direct meaning but toward another character (who is the reflection of Hayama). See? There are new possibilities pop up. Actually, I want to investigate about the word “arranged marriage” again but I am too busy and have no motivation to do some long term Oregairu analyzing.
However, I think that although the arranged marriage might “not” happen for real, I think analyzing about this topic made us and others produce some creative thoughts that I think everyone’s idea is not wrong because we are the creators who have the power of creation. For your idea [Iroha might know about the engagement], I think I don’t see the connection but your idea surprises me. And you also raise it to grow more, I feel that I am watching a tree is growing and there is a flower. Amazing.
Although the marriage might not happen for real or Hayama is not the mastermind or even nobody did that at the beginning, it is not important. The important thing is we can create our creation and we can admire this nature. So you don’t need to be worried if your opinion might be wrong. Although it is possible that our opinions might be not consistent with WW’s, in the world of quantum, your beliefs create the reality. If you believe it, it will happen in the quantum world. The inconsistance between your own reality and other people’s reality is normal and they are not wrong. My idea is not wrong, yours is not either, WW’s is not either.
For example, I created the realities about [arranged marriage] and [Hayama is the mastermind of prom cancellation]. When I created these in my own quantum world, they are realities (in my own world). Some people might judge my analyzing because my ideas might not be consistent with WW’s so [YahariBento’s ideas are wrong!]. But in the quantum world, there are no right or wrong. My explanation might confuse you but what I want to say is you don’t need to be worried about judging or no any proof. People who judge the other, is their own business.

You know it all makes sense that the Yu crush would be Haruno now that I read this, because Haruno took care of Hayato as a child and a special relationship but hayato failed to protect yukino from the bullying and whatnot. Haruno also looked out for Hachi and her own sister throughout most of if not the entire series. Of course he would get jealous.
