In case you have no free time to read all books, I recommend you to read v6, Drama CD v7, LN v10. This topic I am going to analyze, is the event when Hikigaya Hachiman (比企谷 八幡) and Yuigahama Yui (由比ヶ浜 結衣) meet Haruno and Hayama Hayato (葉山 隼人) at the shopping mall during the new year. So you might think it is strange to explore v6 and Drama CD v7 (I will call it “DC v7” from now on) too despite this event happens in v10. It is because…
- Haruno realized something important about her sister during the school cultural festival in LN v6.
- And in DC v7, I found how the conversation between Yukinoshita sisters during the after party is very interesting. The hint which is hidden behind their chat, is like the connection that links [her awareness at that time in v6] and [how she can make her sister rush to the meeting place in v10] together. You can call it Haruno’s timeline.

To tell you the truth, Haruno realizes two important things about her sister during this festival but for this post, I will explain only one thing first that is as the title post says. If I have free time, I might explain another thing later.
Oregairu Analysis – Why does Haruno Call Yukino Over?
With the timeline above, two events in v6 and DC v7 are hints that will describe Haruno’s action in v10 that it appears that she needs to do it because it is the emergency situation. (??) If you are confused why it is like that, why does she need to ring Yukino up hastily?, you can check this post to read her motivation first.
So in order to understand the reason why this mysterious character can urge her little sister to join the event she doesn’t want to go, you need all references because if we can understand how Haruno knows something, we will also know how she can “convince” Yukino to play the music again despite her younger sister doesn’t want to do it, during the after party in DC v6. If you think Yukino loves him so she is nervous because Hachiman gonna watch her perform (DC v7) or she comes because she is worried her big sis is with him (v10), I am not surprised because her reactions at those times are so obvious. However, I suspect a certain author wants to show us something different. And after I began to see the connection, I decided to show it to you.

Sounds confusing, huh? To tell you the truth, I was the one who was confused of Haruno’s actions.
If you read this post, I hope it will help you can understand how things happen between Yukinoshita sisters and understand this mysterious character. Actually, I will not analyze her only, her sister too. Because I can say for now that her little sister was the one who revealed this truth to her. At that time, this Nee-san would be the only one who reaches this truth too.

What is it? Why is she so worried? What is backup? Or even Haruno can be worried? If you have these questions in your mind, it means you didn’t read another post yet. Oregairu Analysis – Arranged Marriage (Or Engagement) Might Happen FOR REAL!?
The bomb her family would throw to her (but in the end, it will not be arranged).
In LN v10, the event when she tries to call Yukino up as soon as she meets Hachiman and Yuigahama walk into the café, is the event in LN only. This scene is modified in anime and manga -Monologue- so we can’t see her impatient. Since we can’t see this moment of her, it is difficult to see and understand more. The moment she sees Hachiman come in the same place while she is worrying so much, is like …umm she sees the opportunity to grant the impossible wish that she was trying so much to pray but failed…, until he arrives, that is calling for her backup, her little sister.
If you reach at this point, please allow me to think that you already read Haruno’s reason (from my posts above) that it can explain why she tried so much to ring Yukino up many times (if we listen to Hayama’s opinion while she is trying again (this scene doesn’t happen in anime), you will see that he doubts this time will work, that is making Yukino join with their family dinner).
In order to understand her action, imagine her expression. when a woman is so worried and picks her phone to call so quickly. And try to watch this gif with x3 speed.
Many Obstacles
The event in anime Oregairu Zoku ep10…, when Haruno starts to call her sister over, Hachiman and Yuigahama are surprised after they know who she is talking with. However, the gathering of these 5 people along with the atmosphere around them or even my own curiosity toward them (wanted to know what will come next between them), all of these factors would make me not notice all abnormalities about Haruno that I described above. We need time to find the treasure but we also need time to notice there is the treasure over there. That’s why this is the good place to launch another mysterious, [why is Haruno so confident Hachiman will make her sister come out?].
The Notices
- Hayama doubts if her imouto will come although Onee-san is trying to contact her again. (Nod.) But Haruno answers him confidently that this time will work. (Huh?)
PS. The scene when Hayama doubts her effort will work this time, can’t be found in anime. - I was surprised a bit after Haruno tells Yukino that she is with Hachiman.
- Letting Hachiman talk to her sister, can change Yukino’s mind. This surprised me more. Just small talk and Haruno can summon her sister like that!?
- And Yukino comes to meet them for real!? Maybe Haruno is the summoner?
- Other small notice – Haruno’s usual reply can evade Hachiman’s dissatisfaction. – Since she doesn’t want to answer him… I can believe 100% that she doesn’t want to tell them her reason.
These notices would be enough to show you how to summon Yukino. But the next challenge is “where can I find the answer?” And “what is the answer?” So I chose to use my own usual way, checking Haruno’s story. Since Haruno’s first appearance in LN v10 is when she and Hayama meet Hachiman and Yuigahama, it means I don’t need to find the clue in the same reference anymore. And you can ignore v7,9.
In DC v7, I remember I ever wondered a scene that is the conversation between Yukinoshita sisters during the end of after party after the cultural festival.
When Haruno guides everyone arrives the livehouse where other students celebrated for the cultural festival (the after party that she and co. have fun is another one) to “rock you” again. But her sister asks her Onee-san why she (Yukino) needs to play too (it seems she realizes she would participate too). Haruno who seems read Yukino’s mood in advance because she can “convince” Yukino’s pride instantly by saying…
Oh! Don’t tell me you can’t perform because you are too excited from Hikigaya-kun looking at you?
What are you talking about? There’s not a face that could be less nerve-inducing than his. I definitely won’t get nervous from him looking at me.
Is it? Yeah, that kid really can’t make you feel nervous.
Feels like there’s some hidden meaning behind those words…
If we consider their conversation carefully, we will notice Haruno’s words which I highlight is “Haruno says a thing but actually thinks the opposite.” And Yukino can notice it, you can see she doubts Haruno’s words. Repeating the words or opinion makes Yukino suspect what Haruno is thinking.
At the beginning, I didn’t notice this at all but realized later that if a certain author likes to explain/reveal the character’s feeling/story via other character. So I mean s/he wants us to notice this moment or Haruno’s thought, he just pastes his desire via Yukino’s words by saying as if she suspects Nee-san’s words, like that. To sum it up, the author wants us to look at Haruno’s words, or actually, her thought behind her opinion.
If my assumption is correct, I believe that there is a significant sign behind her words definitely. However, I tried to find the meaning behind her words but yes, as usual, I couldn’t find the answer so I had no choice but leave it until I will find the answer somewhere.
But after I witnessed how this author uses this writing technique so many times and I looked at their conversation again. If WW points something like this, if Haruno says a thing but actually thinks the opposite, it means she thinks Hachiman really can make her little sister feel nervous.
Actually, I couldn’t find how “Hachiman really can make Yukino feel nervous” will be so significant or worrisome. If his actions during the fes. will get Yuki points, it is very normal. Helping her but no her points is kinda weird for me. To sum it up, I didn’t connect [this Yukino’s feeling toward Hachiman] with [Haruno “asks” Hachiman to help her summon Yukino] together. I didn’t see how these two truths are connected.
In LN v10, since Haruno shows Hachiman via “body language” that she will not take her phone back until he will talk to her sister first. Her action makes him have no choice but to do it. This occurs the question “why does Yukino change her mind after she knows that Hachiman is with her Nee-san despite she refused clearly just now?”
Could it be letting him talk to Yukino is Haruno’s plan believe that he will make her sister come out? If we consider this issue, you will see that [Haruno “asks him for help” so Yukino will come to meet her (not use him as the bait, ok?)] is similar with what happens in DC v7, [how she “urges” Yukino to perform by bringing Hachiman’s existence (and I will say it again that this big sis didn’t use him so she can convince her imouto to join the band, ok?)].
And to analyze in order to find “the true reason” why Hachiman becomes the Matatabi for Yukino (the normal reason is he saved her many times in LN v6), I need to consider the situation in v10 via Yukino’s point of view instead. If we look via Haruno, I doubt I will find the answer. At that time,
Haruno tells her she is with Hachiman and confirms it by giving her phone to him. After Yukino realized that he is with Nee-san for real, she changed her mind…
What I need to explain Yukino’s action is her action is not different from how normal people will do. The name is the attachment. However, I don’t mean the jealousy in terms of love for this case.
Explain “attachment”
Sometimes or for someone, when someone realizes other people approach the people s/he feels contented or the people s/he feels contented approaches the other, this emotion will appear and it can make the owner of this emotion lead to “desire”. The nature of this desire is another emotion, it can cause another factor, “pursuit”. The next step is the owner of this pursuit emotion will (or will not) “gain” what s/he pursuits. If the owner obtains the thing s/he wants, s/he will be satisfied. And if it is different, s/he will be unsatisfied. No matter the owner will reach happiness or unhappiness or even “equanimity”, this process will make the owner “used to” it that it means the owner learns and be more skillful. The more skillful, the more chance this person will return to this process again in the future.
To sum it up, after Yukino realizes Hachiman is with her sister (or her sister is with him), this news worries her so she needs to “secure” thing she feels contented from Haruno. When she arrives (or I should say, secure Hachiman), it means she can “protect” him from people who she is imagining Haruno is obtaining what she (Yukino) feels pleases. It is difficult to explain since her threat is also the opposite sex with the one she is pleased so it is highly possible to misunderstand that this is love, this can occur within the circle of friends, competition, health, etc. And it is more difficult because Yukino doesn’t show her feeling clearly but staying by his side is the solution in her opinion.
And since Yukino arrives as Haruno aims (or I should say, prays), she doesn’t touch this issue anymore, both sisters help each other close this issue quietly… No. It still continues.
(Gulp!)
It seems the author tries to insist on this issue or this sign from Yukino by adding one more case. After Yukino arrives, I think you would remember when she doesn’t expect Yuigahama is also with the one she feels contented too…, I think you don’t need my explanation anymore. She questions Yuigahama (or Hachiman too, I forgot). Yuigahama’s answer will ease Yukino or not, is not what I will know anymore since a certain Nee-san complains Yukino is late (Oh god. Haruno’s word, “おそい” is still ringing in my head, its power is less than Isshiki Iroha (一色 いろは)‘s powerful words though). Since the author repeats this issue of Yukino, it means he wants to show us that it is important.
How to refresh the spirit, watch kouhai.
And this can explain why Haruno is confident Hachiman will make her sister come out, and also explain Yukino’s thought toward Hachiman.
Attachment is the natural that is exist in every case. Even people who get involved with Yukino’s case is no exception because people are satisfied with thoughts. WW presents how most thoughts can guide people on the wrong path.
…If we consider the scene in anime ss1 ep4 ⇑, WW tries to present this issue for a long time or not?
If there is any chance someone might think I am reviewing Yukino and others, this is also misunderstanding, I am reviewing the process I explained above via analyzing characters. Since everyone is not the problem, the process is the problem. After reviewing the process, I can say WW did a great job explaining things people get involved in detail. That’s why I can understand Yukinoshita sisters’ story (partly). And this is the true reason why big sis can convince Yukino by asking Hachiman for help. However, I still don’t explain when/how she found out Yukino’s attachment toward Hachiman yet.
When/How did Haruno find out Yukino’s attachment toward Hachiman?
So I tried to remember when he did the good things to Yukino, the next destination is LN v4, 6 and 9.
- When he solved Tsurumi Rumi (鶴見 留美)‘s case.
- When he saved her from Sagami Minami (相模 南)‘s “have fun” policy.
- And when he announces he wants something genuine.
But Haruno didn’t witness the second scene so I can exclude v9. And for his achievement in v4, I tried to find if Haruno also knows his action. But after I explored v4-6, I didn’t any clues that show she knows his action during the summer camp. That’s why I exclude v4 too. So v6 is the only one left. There is the scene that she witnessed with her own eyes.
For Yukino’s case, Haruno found out her sister is attached to Hachiman during the school cultural fes. Since she can urge Yukino to perform (in DC v7), it means she must know or witness something about Yukino in the same reference or earlier. So I checked v6 or manga @Comic v8. The scene that lies the answer is the scene when Yukino is so shy after Hachiman said he watched the concert, he also praised her. And then Nee-san witnesses her reaction and Yukino’s TL explanation so she says Yukino is so shy and teases her imouto (you can’t find this scene in anime ss1 and manga -Monologue-). At that time, that is how and when Haruno realizes her younger sister is attached to this boy.
I can’t find in anime but it is the scene that happens after this scene. ⇑
Since Yukino’s embarrassing because of her savior watched and praised her, is the key which connects with Haruno’s opinion toward Yukino in DC v7 (she is nervous again). That’s why I finally saw how they connect and lead to Haruno us-, umm, “asking” Hachiman to make her sister come out. However, the new question is coming.
Why can Haruno understand instantly that Yukino is attached to Hachiman?
In my opinion, I think she would ever witnessed or experienced her sister do that in the past, maybe it happened to Haruno only or even Hayama too. I include him because of certain info from her Nee-san in LN v11. If I have more free time, I might update this in the future. Giving something to the other doesn’t mean that person “loves” the other because attachment exists in every level and everywhere.
Why Does Haruno Want Hikigaya-kun to Ask Yukino About Her Career Path?
And Yukino’s attachment leads to “something”, something that worries Haruno so she needs “help” again. …Haruno has so many problems to solve, internal and external.
In anime Zoku ep10, Haruno can make Yukino come out by forc-, umm, asking Hachiman for help and things are as she wishes. However, while I was reviewing this issue, I notice there is someone who witnessed what happened in front of her/him… So another theory that occurs in my head is, “is it possible that this person brought this knowledge, Yukino’s attachment toward Hachiman, for her/his own benefit?” Of course, this character is sitting at the same table. …Whoa, this person is really… If you read my analyses in this blog until now, I think you would know which character I am referring to. Maybe I will update this in the future.
Why Does Hayama Want Himself & Hikigaya To Be Equal? And His “Silent Plan”.
In case you want to know how that person uses Yukino’s attachment toward Hikigaya for her/his own scheme, feel free to read more in this post. Sigh… I can’t believe this person will do this to people s/he was close.
If Haruno realizes this Yukino’s secret, then why she didn’t do anything?
Well, if I need to guess, I think she didn’t think “liking Hachiman or getting nervous” is the problem. I mean, who will think Yukino’s embarrassing will be the problem? But after she witnessed the deep truth behind this attachment that I ever explained that the attachment is not the good thing, she finally understands this is the severe case which is like when her little sister followed her shadow or how she wants to rely upon her which is also the exhausting status. So you will see Haruno starts to move by “asking” (not ask directly but still asks) Hachiman to (or help her) solve this problem that you can see how she approaches him so often after this event.
This is my conclusion toward Haruno’s thought about how and when she sees the sign from her sister and can use this but I don’t see even once that she uses this knowledge to some impure scheme. This also reflects how she is the normal person who relies upon people (in this case is her imouto) but with the abnormal way. And since I ever explained that “someone” also uses Yukino’s attachment for her/his own project, it means that person confirms by her/his own action that Haruno always watches Hachiman, and hurts because of it…

My opponent is the certain LN v8-1* that will unleash the ultimate of many things that can be compared with the combo of big bangs, to the world soon. And I’m not kidding at all. After i read the monologue chapter 39, I was reminiscing about Yukino contending student council president, when the election was over by Yukino “quits”, Meguri “kaichou” approaches Hachiman saying how glad she is if Yukino becoming president, Yui and Hachiman can be can be the member of student council too, does Yukino thinking about that possibility?

I think Yukino can imagine how she will be if she is the kaichou. And Meguri dreams that because she witnessed them work together very well.
But to imagine Yuigahama & Hachiman will join the group… I doubt it since at that time Yukino’s still upset at him because of the event during the school trip. And if she wants them to join her, she’d ask them before paticipate.
I am not surprised if he and Yuigahama will not mind to assist her though. And if Yukino is not upset at him, I think your idea is possible, Yukino might ask them if they want to be the members too, the same as when she asks her classmates to join the video teaser for the prom, retaking the video with people she knows is comfortable than asking complete strangers.
