If you read the first part already, I think you would touch these analyses already, but I still recommend in case you jumped from somewhere and ended up here.

Before I will start to reveal Hayama’s love plan fully if you wonder who is his crush I mentioned, you can read in Oregairu Analysis – Finally, “Y” in Hayama Hayato’s Heart Was Revealed. If you know who is that person, it will be easier for you when you read my analysis from now on. And in this analysis ⇑, if you don’t know Hayama’s love rival, this analysis can help.
And about the secret competition I wrote previously, if you read this analysis, you will know Hayama started to compete with his love rival in LN v4, but it’s the secret fight, no one know but him only.

The School Cultural Festival The daytime LN v6, anime ss1 ep12, manga -Monologue- v4-5
In the previous part, you can see the intense atmosphere when Hayama and Haruno meet, how Hayama acts after he knew Haruno will be the quest or will participate in the Cultural Festival and how he hurts his love rival, Hachiman who didn’t know anything about Hayama’s feeling.
When he visits at the planning committee again, he found the opportunity to get Haru scores from his target by helping her sister, Yukino. Volunteering to be the representative of the volunteer organization will be the benefit for him to gain attention from Haruno and he can have a reasonable excuse to coordinate with her group. Everything is so tiresome for him but his plan is running smoothly. Until the aura of the dark warrior steals huge Haru scores with the single blow.
The dark warrior couldn’t stand the tyrant king and lazy citizens so he casts Meg@nte spell to them, but this spell is too powerful, it wiped the whole planning committee out. Even Yukinoshita sisters took effect from this spell. But Hayama didn’t admire his love rival since he got high Haru scores and his method hurts him because it is no way he can do it. Since Hayama might not know about Haruno’s suffering and her plan to save her sister, he misinterpreted that she likes “how to” of his rival only, but actually, what made her pleased, is not his “how to” only.

Oregairu Analysis – “After” Yukinoshita Haruno Decides to Help Yukino. (The Last Part)
While Hayama’s effort to get attention from Haruno was overshadowed by Hachiman’s Meg@nte , Haruno’s plan will be successful or not?
So after he saw how his target likes “how to” of his rival only and the inferior complex hurts him again, but he still believes that his nice aura will make her interests in him. So what happened next in Hayama’s arc?
Hayama will never give up!
Skip to when Yukino is finding Sagami because the ending ceremony will start soon.
So before Hayama and co. will play the performance, he volunteers to help Yukino and co. by giving them more time. He and co. will play one more song and he uses many social apps and mail to find her. But when Yukino gives him the gratitude, he says he…
“Don’t worry about it. I want to show off a bit today too. Anyways… we’re going to be on stage now, but at most, we can only get you ten minutes. You’ll need to find her by then.”
At first, I was not sure what he means, [want to show off a bit today], but if he is going to do this for the sake of himself, I will guess he knows Haruno would watch the performances somewhere, so he will not miss the chance to do his best, so she will watch him. If it’s true, he even convinces Yumiko, who has the feeling for him, to help him show off so Haruno will see him?

ps. I don’t know this is coincidental, but in manga @Comic, there’s one page that showed Haruno was playing guitar while Hiratsuka-sensei was playing bass (I guess). So I guess it’s light music or something. And in Hayama’s band, he used guitar too. What I notice is, Hayama played the same musical instrument as her, and it’s possible that he wants to show Haruno to look at him that is the similar pattern when she ever played during her era. However, it’s possible that all of these are coincidental, but if you ask me, I can’t call this is a coincidence since there are many things that are the same/similar between Haruno’s musical performance in the past and Hayama’s musical performance.
Anyway, I feel sorry for Hayama since Yukino calls her sister to come to her, so she can’t watch him perform no matter she wants to watch for real or not. Actually, if you see the timeline of Hayama and Haruno, it’s impossible for her to watch him perform, since she accepts Yukino’s request, so although she can’t test or practice the drum kit because this instrument should be at the stage right now, she would spend time with her little sister and co. before it’s their turn to play.
Then, when does Hayama know Haruno is with her sister right now and will help Yukino buy more time?
- In anime ss1 ep 12, he might know that Yukino called her older sister after he used social apps to find Sagami before his band will go to play song(s). But it’s possible that he knew that Haruno accepted Yukino’s request and will play music with her after he and co. played song(s) too.
- In LN v6, it’s highly possible that he knew that Haruno came to help her sister after his band finished their work.
However, about his effort to buy more time so Yukino and co. will have more time to find Sagami might reach Haruno’s ear too. But I think he might feel sad because she didn’t watch his performance, but at least if she heard that he tried to help her little sister and co., if she remembers about his effort, it would be worthwhile more or less. However, Haruno will consider about this effort or not, is still mysterious, since we never find this in any mediums.
A notice
This is just my notice but I suspect one of the reasons Hayama tries to find Sagami with all of his power because he might know his rival is searching for her. Imagine when he and his group were going to buy more time, Hachiman was there but after he and co. went back, Hachiman is not there. After he reviewed things, it is not too difficult for him to think of what Hachiman is doing.
Another thing is when Hayama and co. reached the rooftop, he is not surprised Hachiman is there.
Again Hayama plans fail.
All efforts of Hayama failed to gain Haruno’s interest because of many reasons. But his effort (buy more times to search for Sagami) this time might be successful if he can bring the chairman back with his own power.
So if I look via his point of view, he would know that she didn’t watch his performance since she and co. would be busy discussing the musical performance they will play soon. So his plan to show off so Haruno will see him fail. And although he used social apps and volunteered to buy more time to find Sagami might reach her ears, it would not be enough since everyone is trying their best to find Sagami.
Discover the most wanted criminal and bring Chairwoman-chan back, should be “the best achievement” enough to make Haruno, who is going to try her best, turns to look at him or not if he can bring the chairwoman back?
After she and co. finished their performance and realizes that he is the one who answered everyone’s expectation by bringing Sagami back so her effort will not be in vain?
This would be the last time and the biggest opportunity
for him to make his wish come true, so…
I saw his effort searching for Sagami and tried his best to convince her to do her job. At first, I ever admired his perseverance because I didn’t see his true intention and thought he is the nice boy who will offer his help for other people, although he tried too hard, I never think he has a hidden intention. But this time, if you read my assumptions about his thoughts and feelings, you might know what I will be going to write. I will write why he was so upset Hachiman so much, to the point I can see his hatred.
I still think he tried his best to find Sagami for real, although his performance has ended just now, I ever thought his doing was admirable, but if he has the same hidden intention? If he has that objective, I finally can explain why he tried so much to find the person who everyone is wanting the most. It is like the hunting game. Anyone who can bring Sagami to do her job, will be praised by everyone, and the one who will know is the one he wants attention from her the most, I think you would know who I mean.
So to this point, what he needs to do is just convincing Sagami and bringing her back to everyone. Moreover, if he can bring her back, it’s not necessary for him to tell everyone about his success because her friends will take that role and share his effort so everyone will know, everyone will praise him and Sagami’s friends, and the news will reach to Haruno’s ears automatically.
But it’s difficult than he thought, no matter he tried to talk with Sagami, she will not go back with him.
But he can’t give up just because she will not go back. If he lets this chance go, he will not get attention from that person, he will not win that guy. He tries to step forward slowly. However, while he was struggling with the same method he believes, his rival couldn’t wait for Hayama’s noble ph****sm, he transformed into the dark warrior again, and started casting “D*rk S*vior” spell to Sagami, that spell damages Sagami continuously until her SP runs out.
If you look via Hayama’s point of view, while he (Hayama) is convincing Sagami but his rival is pouncing on the big meat like that, before his very eyes, and using that skill he can’t use it. Again his plan was destroyed by his love rival, again that guy confronted bad people to solve problem that he can’t do the same thing as him, again that guy could do it so easily, again that person will know what his rival done and gain high Haru scores to him although his rival never wish. All of these are reasons why Hayama “stops” Hachiman harshly like this. ⇓
At first, I ever thought he hates “how to” of Hachiman only. And it’s possible that he doesn’t want Hachiman hurt himself and Sagami like that although it’s emergency. But if my previous assumptions about his purpose and complex are correct, I will say that he is a normal human who has his own personal purpose. You can see although Sagami’s mind got heavy damage, Hachiman still continues to cast dark spell, Hayama can’t stand to watch his rival win this competition and the reward he is expecting will be pounced by this guy (unintentionally) anymore, so he charges his rival not because he doesn’t want him hurt her but because of his rage in his eyes. With this, you can see why he said…
“Hikigaya, shut up for a bit.”
His action is the demand for his opponent to not interfere with his effort. But this also ended the chance to do things by himself automatically, because he turns to charge Hachiman. His anger and the new desire (stops Hachiman asap) cover his original objective (convince Sagami).
ps. In LN v6, Sagami tried to stop Hayama, but in anime season 1-2, her friends are the one who took that role.
Hayama can’t be the dark warrior.
After Sagami and co. left, Hayama talked to Hachiman before he will leave that…
“…Why is that the only way you know how to do things?”
His remark made Hachiman thinks that he can’t stand to see people hurt and can’t forgive someone who hurt others. But it’s because forcing Hayama’s image (the nice guy) of Hachiman is the reason why Hachiman convinces himself and think why Hayama is so upset. And Hachiman realizes that he is not nice to Sagami at all, so Hayama stopped him because he is the opposite.
But for Hayama’s pov, I think Hayama’s word above is …like he complains to his opponent not because he is worried about him but because his efforts failed every time Hachiman used this method because he knows that person will feel if she knows this news.
Since Hachiman never knows Hayama’s feeling and the reason why he tried so much to bring Sagami back. If I want to know why Hayama said like that to Hachiman, I think I should look back at the first sacrifice of Hachiman to destroy Sagami’s policy and everyone will be united and try their best. I don’t have solid evidence that she NEVER vend her feeling to Hayama (after that certain incident in the past) before. But at the gap between LN v3-4, I ever wrote in my Oregairu Analysis – Finally, “Y” in Hayama Hayato’s Heart Was Revealed (link is above ⇑) that I am sure Hayama ever met her before he will go to the summer vacation in LN v4. So it means that they ever talked. But if he never knows about her long-term suffering, it means that she never tell him although they ever met and they are casual. While she didn’t meet Hachiman so often, but she still vends her feeling to him when she has free time enough, although they ever met three times only.

So it’s no way he can’t know why she is fond of Hachiman either and thinks she likes that guy because she only likes how Hachiman solves the problem that becomes one of reasons he tries to act like Hachiman (confronted bad people to solve problem) in front of Haruno in LN v8 but she sees through his objective that you can see how he reacts after she told him something.
That’s why Hayama said like that to Hachiman. Because he misunderstood and felt inferior to his love rival again. Because Hachiman’s doing rejected all good things he (Hayama) was trying until now and no wonder that Haruno will like his love rival again.
The final result of Hayama’s plan
When he said to those three girls to hurry back, he didn’t look at them at all. Look from his attention, I think he doesn’t care about them much because it is not important anymore but he needs to do what he starts, finds Sagami. Tobe’s opinion toward Hachiman would make him feel good a little bit. When someone gossips about someone you hates, it is normal to occur some pleasure.
In case the love Plan of Hayama was successful.
if my assumptions about his love plan are true, you can imagine so easily how he will feel after Haruno fell the trap saw him tried so hard and starts to be interested of him…
So this is the report of Hayama’s love plan during the School Cultural Festival.
But his love story still doesn’t end yet.
Although his love plan failed by Hachiman, “the certain specific incident” in doughnut cafe triggers him to move.
If you want to know more, LN v8, anime Zoku ep3, manga -Monologue- v7 is the next stop. There you will know how he feels if he got the call from Haruno and she wants him to come (to her) now. But when he comes to the place she told him, what he sees is not what he expected.

Before Hayama will realize that Haruno is looking for someone, this incident happened before he will meet her again between LN v3-4. Hayama’s feeling toward Haruno is not what happened with no any clue. If you want to know when/how he realized that the person he has the feeling for, is interested in his acquaintance, this post will help you. Also, the first battle of him to defeat his love rival lies there. How Haruno treats to Hachiman and Hayama are so different although the School Cultural Festival ended for a long time. Let’s see how she treats them at the doughnut cafe (LN v8, anime Zoku ep3). Although Hayama’s love plan ended, his feeling still doesn’t change. So when he comes to the doughnut cafe as her command, what he sees is… another nightmare. Hayama’s effort still continues in LN v8. And this is the conclusion. When he can’t accept her answer, he tries to find the way to gain her attention again. Now he found it. After he got how-to gain her attention, he used it and it is successful. To gain her attention in the end, he must make her stop looking for that person first.

Then my assumption MAYBE HIS(Hachiman) Ideal type ressembles Haruno
I split his lines with his personality
There was a noisier girl(Haruno is noisy girl really :D) ,a more silent one ( her intentions) , different as can be ( her actions are unique yet interesting)

you’re analysis of most of the characters are spot on especially yukinoshita Sr. But i think you understimate hikigaya too much. As u have said that the yukinoshita sister misinterpretd his intentions to scrafice himself for everyone (when sagami goes missing) i am afraid u r wrong. He actually did it for their sake.
It is tiresome to find contexual evidence but i can prove it through psychology.his monologue of self image which he gives in season 2 after the chocolate episode is the key factor here. While most people tebd to skip it bcoz it feels plain boring or to complex to understand but if u pay close attention to it then his actions can be justified.
Hikigaya was given the task to find sagami more like expectations were forced on him by yukino and yui . and while it is true he is super annoyed with sagami and he suggests to make the results themselves he still ends up searching for her bcoz he cannot afford to fail yui and yukino.
after finding her. He says to sagami that yukino and group are buying time and she needs to return. Sagami who is already so jealous of yukino throws an ugly tantrum as she feels she has no worth. pay attention.
It is the crux of situation. Hikigaya says to himself that he knows what he needs to say but he refuses to say. Do u know why ?

every person has an ideal self an image that he clings on to something which is way off the mark and in order to maintain such futile struggle how can things be genuine ?.- s2
He can’t say the words bcox his social image is already fixed thanks to tge coutesy of the judgement of people . He is a mere loner and words like “let’s return everyone is waiting for u ” will never reach sagami through him bcoz that is something a ‘kind’ person like hayato would say( who is just a popular hypocrite).
As and when hayato says this to sagami u must have noticed her reaction compared to one she gaye to hachiman when it he who found her first. U see there was instant disdain for him yet a eagerness when she heard hayato’s words.
At this point of time hachiman led by his ideal image of yukino who would never lie and always be fair. deternined that to ans. To her expectation he would do things his way
“Fair and square, outfront maliciously” – bcoz this is his image in other people minds and in his as well as he is quite self depreciating. that’s why he acts out as a villian make sagami realise her shallowness, ugly ego, teachers her a lesson yet diverts people who would have bad mouthed her to himself as he becomes the big bad wolf.so that people would feel that although she was wrong yet they will als be sympathetic.
Along with hayama ‘ the hero in shining armour’ they manage to bring sagami back. U see he does’nt again anything from it but he still foes through it bcoz he knows this was his only method.
Inorder to explain u more clearly why it was really a sacrifice i will give u small eg.
Think for 1 sec that gotham and batman really exist. And u have been given the role of joker. Since it is u and not the real personality of joker u intend to actually help the city and not spread chaos in it but what r ur options if u go to the police or batman they will put u in jail bcoz they percieve u as evil the only option u have got is to become the eneny the one who unites the city under a common threat. thus spreading chaos will stop it. Isn’t it a twisted logic but sadly it is true.
Hachiman had no choice. U can also cross check this with the fact that he goes back to work placing the chairs like nothing ever happened. He helped and then people judged him for it. It sucks when alk the rest did was sit back and whine.

I agree with you that 8man search for Sagami because the committee needs her to do the last job, and his clubmates expect him to find her while they will play the song performance so he’d has more time. But I notice that he doesn’t like Sagami, who he needs to find too (because what she done earlier and this time). So I consider his feeling toward her into his action to make her do her own job. I remember that when he is going to reveal why she is at the rooftop, he thinks how to make her move, that is his logic, but he knows only his own method and admits that he likes to do it = he doesn’t mind to use negative method to bad people like Sagami who thinks only herself. What I want to conclude is, yes, he did for other people, no wonder about that. He is worried that he must move Sagami to do her job or else everyone’s effort will be in vain. But when he crushes Sagami’s mind, he did because he hates her too. Another evidence is, he feels shame when Yukino tells him that he helped everyone. I think Yukino misinterprets what he did because she believes that this is “the only reason” – for everyone’s sake only, while in the reality, he used negative method to Sagami because he doesn’t like her (emotion) and agrees that this method is effective because Hayama’s method doesn’t work (logic). If people who hate each other, must confront one another, it’s impossible that they will be nice either. So when Yukino is admiring him, he can’t accept her praise. That’s why he tries to give credit to Hayama instead and tells reasons why she should praise Hayama because he doesn’t feel that he deserves her praise. Another reason why I assume that Yukino misinterprets, because she doesn’t know that he hates Sagami but consider powerful action of him only. However, the main reason is because believing in image that he and she establish that leads to the turning point in LN v7.
About 8man lets Hayama and Sagami’s friends do their job to convince Sagami first although he found her before them. I think he hopes that they can change her mind (it’s fine if they succeed, 8man doesn’t need to do hard job (convince her)). They are suitable to do this job because they are close to Sagami more than him. But your assumption about social image of 8man is interesting.
I am not sure that what 8man did is sacrifice but what I am sure is he falls into the situation that he must choose “do” or “bad ending”. But what you tell me about batman’s actions is something like that. I think that if batman and 8man have better choice to choose, I think they will consider every options (just like when 8man lets Hayama and co. convince Sagami because he hopes their method will work). But the same thing between 8man and bataman’s situations is, they have their own reason/determination/feelings and of course the responsibility. They will not let the bad ending happen, and can accept any punishment. However, sacrifice is only one of point of view if we consider their determination/reason/responsibility, but for myself, I am interested in their feelings too, that if I include their emotions to find out why they do something like that, I conclude that these two characters are normal humans who are very interesting.
