Oregairu Analysis – Arranged Marriage (Or Engagement) Might Happen FOR REAL!? [Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru. Zoku Season 2 Ep 10-12]

When Yukinoshita Haruno (雪ノ下 陽乃) might be in big trouble because her and his families decide that  she will marry to this guy.

I suspected about this topic for a long time. But I get more clues while I was writing analysis that are related to LN v10. Haruno comes to the school again for two reasons.

The first reason she comes to the school because she wants HIkigaya Hachiman (比企谷 八幡) to understand the problem that her sister, Yukinoshita Yukino (雪ノ下 雪乃) is doing to him by presenting the past when her sister gave chocolate to Hayama that she would intend to discuss about this topic with Hachiman later, after this chocolate making event ends. I think this is the thing she is aiming (but it is canceled by her partner because she realizes that he has no intention to join with her, include “supports” her sister’s condition.)

The First Clue

The second reason – Another reason why she comes to the school is the first clue that made me write this analysis, if you read LN v11, you would remember the scene when she tries to invite her friend, Hiratsuka Shizuka (平塚 静) to a drink, but it appears that sensei can’t go with her. That makes Haruno feels disappointed a bit, but hopes her friend will bring her in the next time, there’re many things she wants to talk with her. I don’t know why but it seems Hiratsuka-sensei noticed there’s something is happening to this former student so she tells her that

“Haruno, if you…… really do have something you wish to tell me, I can entertain you anytime.”

When Haruno listens to Hiratsuka-sensei said, her shoulders shake a bit for some reason. In Hachiman’s opinion who is observing both of them, he notices Haruno’s eyes and how they spend looking at each other felt very long. Then Haruno breaks off the conversation and turns to Hachiman to invite him instead.

The Second Clue

When Haruno realizes that her friend can’t go hang out with her, she invites Hachiman and her kouhai, Shiromeguri Meguri (城廻 めぐり) but both of them are not of age yet. So Meguri invites her for a tea instead but Haruno is thinking to invite her classmates.

Decode These Two Clues.

When HIratsuka-sensei knows well that Haruno would not say things she needs to say, she tells her to vend it when she is ready. Sensei’s word makes me think that she notices that Haruno is worried or in trouble but she also knows that Haruno would not reveal about it. So she tells her directly but gently that she should vend it (1).

Haruno’s reaction after she listens to Hiratsuka-sensei, or how both of them look at each other, and how she breaks off the conversation and invites other people instead, her behaviors make me suspect that sensei’s instinct is collect. Haruno seems in a big trouble for some reason (2), but how she escapes from her friend by changing the target, also made me think that she can’t tell her or her own fear is blocking her to do that (3).

With these 2) and 3) clues, they make me assume that Haruno tries so much to go hangout (4) with people. When she can’t invite Hiratsuka-sensei, Hachiman, and her kouhai, she decides to invite her classmates that is the fourth choice of her, although chocolate making event would make her return home late (5).

With these five assumptions and notices, I connect them together and conclude that Haruno is in a big trouble. Inviting people for a drink is just how she wants to escape from the problem or the cause of the problem. She has no any intention to vend her feeling and her problem despite I have seen her vends her worry sometimes in the story, but this time, she doesn’t agree with her friend. Maybe it’s because Hiratsuka-sensei notices this, and thinks that venting it is the best choice to assist her friend.

And if you look at how she tries so much to go hangout although helping students to make chocolate would make her return home late. This makes me assume that the problem or the one who is causing this problem is in her house, her family, or a certain person in her family.

Then the next question is

Haruno is involved directly in this problem or not.

Is this her own problem or she is just worried about other people? In order to find out the answer, I need to search in the story. Anything that can make Haruno worry is herself, her mother and her sister. But I can exclude Yukino from the list, because if her sister is the cause of this problem, Haruno should not be so persistent to hang out so she will forget the problem and return home so late. It’s true that she is worried about what her sister is doing to Hachiman, but I reviewed the process of her mission (recover her sister’s condition), I think there is still hope to solve Yukino’s problems.

And I think it should not be the problem to vend her worry about Yukino’s problems to her close friend, Hiratsuka-sensei. But from Haruno’s reaction after she is caught by sensei, is not reasonable if her little sister is involved with Haruno’s worry.

That’s why I assume that right now Haruno has two problems to worry, but Yukino’s problems are not what drives Haruno conduct like this. Another problem with her is the correct answer. And if I consider all clues, I will conclude that she is involved in this problem directly, and the cause of the problem is her family because she doesn’t want to go home.

The next question is

What is Haruno’s problem?

The next wall I need to climb is, I didn’t know what her problem is. So in order to find out her problem, LN v11 is my starting point since the scene when she tries to invite people, is in this v11. But after I reviewed it, there are no any clues. So I needed to jump to LN v10. And her mother also appears for the first time in this v10, so I think it’s reasonable to find the answer in this v10.

If I exclude all scenes that Haruno appears in this v10 to solve Yukino’s problems, the only scene that Haruno involves is the scene when she and Hayama Hayato (葉山 隼人) meet Hachiman and Yuigahama Yui (由比ヶ浜 結衣) in the P*RCO department store.

In this anime Yahari Zoku ep10, she tells Yuigahama that their parents will have family dinner after New Year greeting. And Hayama tells both of them that they (himself and Haruno) needs to accompany them too. When Haruno meets Hachiman, she calls her sister over to accompany her for some reason.

Actually, this scene looked …normal to me although it surprised me a bit because Hayama and his family involved in this family dinner. But what I want to say is this scene is the event that their families use the family dinner to discuss, and of course, her mother must be in this event too. And after that, in LN v11, Haruno seems to be in big trouble that she can’t reveal to anyone even her close friend. And if I connect [this event in LN v10] and [those two clues in LN v11] that I wrote above and consider all of them, they make me get an unbelievable assumption that

 

Their parents decide Haruno and Hayama will get married (or engaged).

……..

……

….

..

.

I’m surprised myself to think assumption like this.

Do I have any Solid proof of this?

None.

I have no any solid evidence to prove that their parents decide this. All clues I have are just circumstantial evidence. So it’s possible that this assumption is wrong too. And there’re more questions to answer.

Then why does Yukino not know about this?

• It’s possible that people who are informed about this, are people who involve in this event directly only. So their parents who decide this, just inform their children (Haruno and Hayama) who will get married only. That’s why I think Yukino will know about this from her big sister or her mother later (that I’m surprised because it seems no one tells her despite we reached LN v12).
• Another reason why Yukino doesn’t suspect or notice something change in her family and Hayama’s family (the closer relationship) although she also joins this family dinner, I wrote in Oregairu Analysis – Why Is Yukinoshita Haruno So Upset Yukino When She Asks Her About Career Path of Hayama Hayato?
• Haruno is not the type who can reveal her true feeling to anyone so easily (especially her own problem) and she is Yukino’s sister, she can’t express her problem to her sister because …she needs to live as her perfect sister. So although she drags Yukino to this event successfully, she doesn’t tell her sister about her problem or the event that will be happening within their family. And don’t forget that her mother is the core of her problem too, the possibility she will reveal this problem is very very low.

If so, why do I think Yukino Is not chosen to marry Hayama?

If her parents decide Yukino will marry to Hayama, her parents must inform her definitely. But from LN v10-11, I don’t see her change or is worried during the chocolate making event. If you are informed by your parents that you will marry to …, how will you feel?

When I reviewed LN v11 when Isshiki Iroha (一色いろは) and the trio are discussing the valentine event – the chocolate making event, if I compare between Yukinoshita sisters, I don’t see Yukino is worried or depressed while Haruno is different (as I explained in two clues above).

And the real reason why their parents don’t choose little sister, I don’t know except we will look via adults’ point of views.

People prefer The cheerful one.

If we look via Hayama’s parents, they would not mind if their son will marry to which one, but if they can choose, they would pick the bright one.

The frequency of socialization

Because of Haruno’s personality and the command by her mother, she needs to attend the parties and meet many people, and some people she meets would include Hayama’s parents too. I assume that meeting them might be one of reason Haruno is chosen.

I suspect Hayama, of course.

If I consider his crush and how he launched secret missions for his own purpose in LN v6 & 8 together, I suspect that it’s possible that he can convince his parents to choose Haruno indirectly as the target he wants. Because if my assumption about his “Y” is Haruno is collect, he should not let adults decide which one will marry to him by themselves, if he doesn’t do anything to make adults choose his crush, they might agree to make him marry to Yukino instead.⊗  But if his parents think the senior is better, he doesn’t need to alter their decision. For how-to controls his parents’ decisions secretly, I have no clue how he does, but from his skill to manipul- umm manage other people’s thought in LN v6, his multidimensional plan in LN v8 and the silent plan in v10-11, I think he can use effective methods to make his parents pick the choice he wants the most. Because I saw him manipulate people many times.

Let me help (for my own purpose).

The first time I realize the first secret mission of Hayama is during LN v6 (anime ss1 ep10-12). There I explained how he can convince people for his own purpose in Oregairu Analysis – “LOVE Plan ♥” of Hayama Hayato During The Cultural Festival? The Time to Reveal This Has Come! (The First Part).

Again in LN v8, but this time he even manipulates Haruno, Orimoto Kaori (折本 かおり) and Nakamachi Chika (仲町 千佳) for his own epic drama during the double date.

Circumstantial Evidence that supports this assumption.

These proofs are not direct evidence that proves my assumption about the arranged marriage between Haruno and Hayama, but they make me suspect that this assumption might be true. (And LN v12 has more hints about this issue so the possibility this issue will happen for real increases).

I found circumstantial evidences in LN v10 c6. In this ch, there’re many clues that make me suspect that the author wants to hide the truth via thoughts of characters in this ch, that is the style I ever noticed so often (such as in LN v5). Let’s see his style in this ch.

1) LN v10

1.1) In Hachiman’s thought

When he is talking with Hiratsuka-sensei about the career path, he thinks that

I’m sure there were many chances to determine your path. It didn’t matter whether it was with your post-education or your career. So in other words, marriage was one of the opportunities among those choices, right!?

Let me tell you first that there are no any abnormalities in his words. But the author planted the information about marriage in Hachiman’s words. I am interested how the author tells that the marriage is one of the numerous choices available for people.

1.2) In Yukino’s opinion

While the trio is discussing which career path Hayama chooses, Yukino focuses on his family because his parents might share their wish with their son. So if Hayama plans to continue their family relations in the near future, then his decision would relate to the ideal of his parents and her family. She also says that,

“But at the very least, my mother wishes for a lasting relationship.”

And her opinion breaks off the conversation because Hachiman doesn’t like the ideal of her mother for some reason. And this is how they end this discussion the future career path of Hayama.

There’s no any abnormalities in this discussion either, but it makes me suspect more about how the author spreads clues in this ch.

1. The marriage
2. The wish of Hayama parents
3. The wish of Yukino’s mother.

So if their families are expecting the same goal, it means that Hayama might marry to one of Yukinoshita sisters.

I want to work~

Actually, if the author doesn’t plan to launch the arranged marriage, he should not introduce this topic secretly, just mention it once would be enough, but he chooses to write this topic after [the scene when their families will go to family dinner], during the club were discussing about [the career path of Hayama] and one thing that Haruno is expecting that is…

1.3) In Haruno’s Expectations

If you read my two analyses, Why does she call Yukino over? [Season 2 ep10] and Why Is Haruno So Upset Yukino When She Asks Her About Career Path of Hayama? [Season 2 Ep 11], I decoded that she is in trouble so she wants her sister to join with her in this dinner that reflects Haruno’s discomfort toward people in that dinner so she wants her sister to know her (Haruno) situation that also reflects her expectation toward her little sister that is “asking Yukino for help voicelessly”. Don’t let her smile & anime scenes trick you. Only LN shows her haste to call her sister.

Also Haruno’s raging emotion after she was asked by her sister about Hayama’s career path. Because she expects that her sister will know her problem because their parents are building the everlasting relationship by arranging her for that purpose that means she will be going to get married with the person she hates the most.

So when Yukino asks her about Hayama’s career choice, there are reasons behind her raging emotion that are 1) her anger because her sister’s question pierces Haruno’s heart, her question makes her recall the most unpleasant thing (Yeah! Why do I not know his career path? We are going to get married because our beloved parents decided and I can’t change anything) and 2) her disappointment toward Yukino because it appears that asking Yukino for help voicelessly of Haruno can’t reach her (how can it reach her if she doesn’t tell her clearly?).

After Haruno got the conclusion that she can’t expect her sister to help her from that misery anymore. However, she comes to the school to solve her younger sister’s problem that can explain why she waits for Hachiman and gives the assignment to find Yukino’s career path. Helping Yukino (and even Hachiman) from “that state” happens because of Haruno’s good will toward both of them as the main reason but I think she can forget about her suffering too. Activities/sport/work/hanging out with friends, anything that can make me not focus at my suffering, I like to do it.

I hope you can see how often the arranged marriage is mentioned by other characters and Haruno’s feeling and behaviors toward this event in LN v10. The connection of data in LN v10-11 makes me believe in this arranged marriage more. However, there are more hint in…

2) LN v12 – (New!)

2.1) Did Haruno hang out with her boyfriend?

I ever thought that this topic would not relate to this analysis and this might be Hachiman’s imagination (that he needs his sister as his pillar to survive from his own negative feeling, jealous). But I started to doubt why WW presents this issue? So after I reviewed this moment, I realized that she would hang out with others. Of course. It is not her boyfriend like Hachiman is worried but it really connects with her marriage.

She is studying in the college and lives in the different society (such as her classmates) that Hachiman would not know about them. I will let you imagine how other “men” will feel after she told her friends that she will get married soon… If we know from Hiratsuka-sensei that most boys in the school admired her like she is an angel, I think I can pick this example to let you see how other men would feel the same. Imagine how they would be broken-hearted automatically and decide to release their own sadness umm congratulate her on the marriage by going to someplace such as the bar. Of course, she needs to go too.

⇑ How they are surprised by this shocking news.

Other notices are she said that it’s kinda hard getting out of there (1), she almost got invited to a night-to-morning dinner course (so they can release their sadness?) (2). All of these hints show me that this time she is not the one who invited but other people invited her to “celebrate”. So it is not like she likes to hang out without reason but going outside makes her forget all hardships because of her parents.

Her hanging out are presented so often after the family dinner (even if her sister’s condition is another reason too).

PS. But the fact she was invited by men in the other societies who knew her news about the marriage/engagement is just my assumption. I also thought maybe she hung out with her friend, Hiratsuka-sensei since this alumni ever invited her to hang out somewhere but sensei couldn’t say yes (in LN v11) because she was busy that it would connect with her transfer in the future that we know later in v12. But I doubt sensei invited her to hang out to that night-to-morning dinner course because she said to Hachiman in v12 she is sooooooooo busy. If she went with her former student, I don’t think she still invited Haruno as if she had a lot of free time. Imagine when sensei who needs to spend time to follow the deadline (for the school is March). I think people in this state would be so exhausted. So I doubt people like this want or have remained energy to go hang out to the point they will choose the night-to-morning dinner course even they can go on holiday. So I suspect people in the college who have more free time would invite her. Therefore, the fact sensei hung out with her former student is true, I think WW would show how sensei knows something (about Haruno’s marriage) but I don’t see sensei has the sign like that either (for example, she is going to tell something about Haruno to Hachiman or Yukino. but I don’t see any sign that will show me sensei knows something about her certain alumni), to sum it up, she doesn’t know the origin of Haruno’s worry. With these two reasons, make me still believe that her college friends would invite her to that course.

And this arranged marriage also can explain shows how/why Haruno continues to drinks despite she drank at another place already. Now she can be drunk as much as she wants in the new place.

And the marriage can explain why she still lives in her sister’s apartment, not return to her house with her sister that reflects how she is lonely but she still chooses this choice, to live alone like how her little sister chose it. Both sisters are the same at this point because I believe that they don’t like to live alone but living alone will comfort them and they hope they will not get involved with people they escaped.

3) In LN v13 (New!)

3.1) Prom’s cancellation

Mrs.Yukinoshita appears for the first time in LN v10 and how often she appears after this has some significance as well as the arranged marriage.

Everything connects with each other. And this marriage connects with Hayama’s story too. For example… his future path that he is desperate to hide it from everyone?

Eh?

The problem is Haruno or Yukino is the chosen one to marry him? After the story in LN v10, if you return to the scene during chocolate making event again, Haruno is the one who shows her worry and wants to be anywhere except her home because she wants to escape from the problem or the source of her problem (her mother) but can’t vend her problem to anyone either while I can’t find any sign that shows Yukino knows from her parents that she will get married with him or even her worry about this. If you can find any clue from her, please tell me too.

The style of this author is basing the important keys among the forest of words. However, the result of this analysis can be wrong because I use clues and circumstantial evidence to conclude this analysis only. So I will not convince you to believe this result but I suggest you look for the answer in the most accurate reference (LN). However, this marriage theory is not occurred by my own thought but it was assumed by Haruno’s suspicious action that Hiratsuka-sensei is the one who notices it. If you have any opinion about this arranged marriage, please don’t hesitate to share your opinion.

 

Then, how about Hayama’s side?

If you read LN v10, you will see Haruno and Hayama start to …change but it is unclear because they are still cheerful and friendly, their outer appearance can hide the truth from everyone so easily. Haruno shows her “reactions” while Hayama “is preparing things” for himself and everything around him after the family dinner they joined.

And A Notice.

Credit to free83551. This person gives me one interesting remark that appears in the cover picture of LN v10, arigatou. There, Haruno is wearing a ring on her right ring finger. So I tried to find out if wearing a ring on this finger has some meaning with the engagement or arranged marriage.

• I searched the internet but couldn’t find out any sites that have the answer.
• Since Haruno wears that ring in the cover art of LN v10, I searched in anime ep11-12, LN v10-11 and manga -Monologue- v11. There are no any scenes that show me that she is wearing it.
  
  

  
• Maybe and maybe not – Since I can’t find any clues in anime and LN, I think it is possible that there’s some meaning in the cover art of LN v10. Maybe the author intends to give us some hint. However, it is also possible that she wears it to match her silver arm bracelet on her left arm.

The cover art in LN v10 doesn’t help me prove my analysis, but I don’t drop the truth that [this picture] and [the beginning of the suspicious meeting between two families] that might be the cause of her big trouble, are in the same reference (LN v10) either. I believe that there are no coincidences.
